Due to this service currently not being funded, we are unable to continue providing cryotherapy at Tavyside Health Centre (this includes both Tavyside and Lifton sites).
This was not a decision taken lightly by the Partners and we understand that it will be a significant disappointment to a number of our patients. There are alternative therapies available for many of the skin lesions that were treated by cryotherapy either via a prescription or by referral to dermatology and if you are concerned or would like to discuss matters further please make an appointment with a GP. For some of the benign lesions such as warts, you will be directed to self-management with over the counter remedies and you may wish to discuss these further directly with your local pharmacist.

We need your feedback!
Can you spare 5-10 minutes of your time to complete our important end of year survey?
Our patient’s experience within Tavyside Health Centre and Lifton Surgery is important to us and we constantly aim to improve. The introduction of an annual survey is to obtain feedback both positive and negative. If this survey proves to be popular, we may introduce a bi-annual or quarterly survey. Please be honest with your views.
If you would like to complete this form anonymously, please do not provide any of your personal details, however, if you would like to have a direct response, please fill out your details in the boxes on the attached form.
We appreciate your feedback
We have some doctors leaving us in the next few months to follow other paths:
We are sad to announce that after 17 years of working at Tavyside Health Centre, Dr Johnson will be leaving us at the end of December 2019. He has been a significant part of much of the growth and development of Tavyside over that time, ensuring the long lasting stability of this important service for local people. He has been extremely popular amongst patients over the years and we appreciate that for some, this will be a huge loss and we you to be reassured that your care will be passed onto another GP who will continue to deliver the high standard of care that Dr Johnson gave.
Here are a few words from Dr Johnson:
I have decided after 17 years as a partner at first Stannary Surgery, then following our merger with Wharfside Surgery in 2010, Tavyside Health Centre, to call it a day. I am not retiring from general practice but have some different challenges I would like to face before hanging up my stethoscope, and it’s really just a case of ‘now or never’ for me. It has been a real privilege for me to look after all of you over the years, and I shall miss all of you and my colleagues. I leave with some great memories and with the knowledge that the practice is in excellent hands – with an enthusiastic partnership led by Dr Jo Coldron, ably supported by Carolyn and Sarah recently appointed as our new managers, ready to take this wonderful practice to another level. Goodbye all!
Dr Raheel Ahmed has also got a thirst for adventure and will be leaving us in February 2020 to go and work in Australia for at least a year. We really hope he does return to the UK and rejoins our team again in the future but perhaps he will find it difficult to leave all that sunshine…..
Dr Rachel Jamieson has only been with us for a short time but has very quickly become a highly valued member of the team. She will be leaving us in January 2020 to spend more time doing her other medical roles locally.
We also have some changes to our nursing team:
We welcome Kim Beattie who many of you will know already from her previous role as one of the district nursing team.
Cathy Smith, who has been with us for many years is stepping back from her full time day to day nursing role in December 2019 however we are very thankful that she is going to remain with us in a part time capacity and continue to provide and develop our specialist women’s health service.
