Introducing Tavyside Health Centre
Wharfside Surgery and Stannary Surgery are joining forces to create a brand new Health Centre serving the people of Tavistock and its surrounding areas. Tavyside Health Centre will be built in the grounds of the existing Stannary Surgery on Abbey Rise, Tavistock. Building work has already begun and is due for completion by Autumn 2010. All seven General Practitioner partners and staff from both surgeries will be making the move to Tavyside Health Centre and patients will be able, as always, to choose which GP they wish to visit.
Stannary Surgery & Wharfside Surgery will remain fully open (with normal surgery opening times) to all patients until the new building is completed & ready to move into. We are very much looking forward to welcoming all our existing & new patients to Tavyside Health Centre later this year.

Personal care at Tavyside
Over the years we have built strong relationships with our patients and although we shall become a larger practice we are very keen not to lose the ‘small practice feel’ which we are very aware has been a strong draw to the respective surgeries for many of you over the years.
We understand how important it is, as a patient, for you to be able to see the GP of your choice when you need to. All seven existing General Practitioner partners and all nursing staff from both Wharfside and Stannary will work together at Tavyside so you will still be able to choose to see your current GP or nurse, or the GP or nurse of your choice.
Our current philosophies of striving to ensure we are approachable, caring, flexible and accessible to all, will remain key when we become Tavyside Health Centre. There will inevitably be a period of ‘settling in’ as we all adapt and adjust to our new environment. We would appreciate your understanding but we also welcome your honest feedback if you feel services could be improved.
Better Facilities at Tavyside Health Centre
Tavyside Health Centre will have all the usual facilities found in a GP surgery but will have many additional facilities, services and benefits:
- A wide range of GP expertise under one roof
- An independent Community Pharmacy (within the building)
- Large and welcoming Reception and Waiting areas
- More space, with a greater number of clinical and consultation rooms
- Excellent disabled access and facilities, including lifts
- Children’s facilities to include a buggy park and soft play area
- Sure Start Children’s Centre
- A base for Tavistock’s Midwifery and Health Visitor teams
- Additional medical services planned, including: Physiotherapy, Counselling, Podiatry, Dietetics, and a Travel Clinic
- Increased number of parking spaces and bicycle parking
- Easy central location in Tavistock

If you are not currently registered as a patient at Stannary Surgery or Wharfside Surgery but would like to become a new patient now, or later at the new Tavyside Health Centre, then please get in touch with the receptionists at either surgery.
